Barack Obama is a former President of the United States, serving two terms in office from January 2009 to January 2017. He was the first African American to be elected as President, and he remains one of the most popular and influential figures in American politics. During his presidency, Obama implemented a number of significant domestic and foreign policies, including the Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare), the stimulus package to counteract the effects of the financial crisis, and the legalization of same-sex marriage. He also oversaw the end of U.S. military involvement in Iraq, and ordered the successful military operation to kill Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. After leaving office, Obama has continued to be active in public life, writing books and giving speeches, and he remains an important figure in the Democratic Party.
