George Michael

George Michael was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou on 25 June 1963, in North London.  He met his future Wham! partner, Andrew Ridgeley, at a nearby comprehensive school, and together they went on to become members of one of the most successful bands of the1980s; Wham!. 

Although the band only lasted 5 years, they were incredibly successful, with 11 Top 20 hits and 10 Top 10 hits, including 4 number1s. After the split, George went on to re-establish himself as a hugely successful solo artist.

In 26 years and at 43 years of age, George Michael can already look back on more than 80 million records sales worldwide.  He has notched up six US number 1 singles from his debut album, 11 British number one singles and six number one albums to date.  He has also played at some of the biggest and most important concerts in history, including Live Aid, The Nelson Mandela Freedom Concert and The Freddie Mercury Tribute.

In January 2007, George Michael was nominated for a Brit Award as Best British Live Act.  A pop icon, George finds himself still at the top of the charts after 3 decades.
