Candace Johnson is a
co-initiator of SES Global, the world’s largest satellite system;
founder of Teleport Europe, Europe’s first trans-border satellite
communications company; and founder of Europe Online, the world’s first
Internet-based online service and satellite Internet provider. Ms.
Johnson is also the founding president of the VATM, Germany’s
Association of Private Telecom Operators and the founding president of
the Global Telecom Women’s Network. Ms. Johnson continues to be
associated with these companies today. In addition, Ms. Johnson was
Global Corporate Vice President of Iridium from 1994-1996 and helped
re-structure the company in its present form.
Ms. Johnson is a founding partner and investor in Sophia EuroLab,
Europe’s first trans-border incubator with AXA, Caisse des Depots, and
the Bayerische Landesbank as well as founding investor and Member of the
Board of Ariadne Capital. She is also a founding member and Board Member
of Sophia Business Angels and the Luxembourg Business Angel Network.
In the Academic World, Ms. Johnson is a Member of the Board of Governors
of Theseus-EDHEC, one of Europe’s premier business schools as well as
Member of the Board of Governors of the University of Haifa in Israel
and the Sabanci University in Turkey. Ms. Johnson is also Senior
Enterprise Fellow of the University of Essex.
Finally, Ms. Johnson received the Lifetime Achievement Award from her
peers at the World Telecommunications Awards in 2002, an award that she
shares with Vinton Cerf and Tim Berners-Lee. The Government of Germany
has awarded her the Officer of the Federal Order of Merit and the
Government of Luxembourg has awarded her the Officer of the Oak Crown
for her services in European Telecommunications and Media.
